Connect Your Bank using Akahu

Connecting your bank account with DuePay App

Connecting your bank lets DuePay top up your wallet and send withdrawals back to your account quickly and securely. You stay in control — you choose to connect, and you can disconnect at any time.

What you get by connecting
  • Top up your DuePay wallet directly from your bank account via Akahu.
  • Withdraw your wallet balance back to your verified bank account.
  • A faster checkout and fewer manual payment details to enter.
What we access, and for how long

With your consent, we securely access only the information you authorise. This may include:

  • Your account holder name
  • Your account number (in a secure, tokenised form)
  • Your account balance (where you consent)
  • Authority to initiate payments for wallet top-ups (where you enable this)

This access is ongoing: we fetch updates on a recurring basis so your top-up and withdrawal features keep working, until you disconnect your bank or close your wallet. We do not store your internet banking password — your bank login is handled securely by Akahu.

Example — what this looks like in practice

“When you connect your bank, we’ll verify your account name and let you top up your wallet. If you enable payments, we’ll only initiate a top-up when you ask us to. You can cancel this at any time in Settings.”

You’re in control
  • You can view your connected accounts at any time in the DuePay app.
  • You can disconnect any account, or revoke all access, at any time in Settings.
  • When you close your DuePay wallet, we remove your bank connection and delete the data we obtained through Akahu that we no longer need to keep.
  • You can also manage or revoke access directly with Akahu at my.akahu.nz.
Who is Akahu?

Akahu is New Zealand’s open finance platform. DuePay uses Akahu to securely connect to your bank account and fetch the data you authorise. Akahu handles the connection to your bank so that DuePay never sees your banking password. You can find out more about Akahu at akahu.nz/consumer.
